Japanese beetle traps contain two chemical attractants; a sex pheromone (scent of virgin females), and a floral lure (sweet smelling food-type). This combination of ingredients is such a powerful attractant that a trap can draw in thousands of Japanese Beetles in a day.

Traps should be used from July to mid-September. Put these traps near your plants, but at far edges of your property. These beetles may feed on the plants before entering the trap.
